Frozen Pipes

Freezing temperatures can wreak havoc on pipes. In the winter, burst pipes are one of the most common emergency calls that we receive at Jessy’s Plumbing. As Vancouvers’s best plumber we’re there day or night to remedy and fix the issue as soon as possible.

Helpful Tips: When it’s below 0C and you notice that your faucets are trickling, chances are that you have a frozen pipe somewhere in your home. Subtly exposing pipes by opening cupboard or closet doors can help to thaw frozen piping by using heat from the room. An easy and inexpensive way to prevent pipes from freezing is to install pipe insulation or wraps throughout the home.

Drain cleaning & snaking

There’s nothing more inconvenient than clogged or partially clogged drains in the home. When a drain is obstructed, it can lead to series of problems. It’s best to get the obstruction cleared as soon as possible and to continue with preventative maintenance so it doesn’t happen again.

Helpful Tips: Once the drain is unclogged, regular maintenance can help to keep your home running smoothly. Regularly removing hair and debris from the traps allows water to drain effectively and quickly. Avoid pouring grease or oil down your drains at all costs as it hardens against the drain well overtime.

Repiping

Sometimes repairing is not the most economical option available to homeowners. Vancouver is known for its older homes. Over time metal and lead piping degrades and can cause water discoloration and staining, change in the water’s taste and smell, and decreased water pressure.

Repiping should be considered when there are a multitude of issues found throughout the home or when you want to increase energy efficiency. Although it may not seem like the most cost-savvy option, repiping can guarantee a return on your investment by mitigating problem before they happen.

When it comes to repiping there are two different materials to choose from; copper or PEX. PEX is resistant to freezing, cost-efficient, and easy to install. On the other hand, copper piping is longer lasting and rigid; however, it requires more of an investment.
